Record Group: 4 UW Scope and Content Note (A95-95) Historical Note: Public relations and information dissemination for the University of Missouri System and MU were handled by the MU Office of Public Relations until 1968. During the 5 year period between the creation of the UM-System and 1968, the MU Office of Public Relations handled the communications needs of both the MU campus and the UM system. In 1968, the Office of University Information Services was created as an UM-System office to serve the public relations, information and publicity needs of the UM-System's central administration and the four campuses. The campus specific information dissemination needs of MU were handled through the Office of Public Information and its successor office, University Affairs. In 1980, the name of University Information Services was changed to University Relations and it was charged with the responsibility of planning and conducting internal and external communications programs at the system level. This included acting as the information source for the Board of Curators. The Office of University Relations was also responsible for coordinating information and publicity efforts with counterpart offices at the four campuses and with University Outreach and Extension. The Office of University Relations consisted of three departments: the Information, Public Relations and Publicity unit; the Radio and Television unit; and the Extension Information unit. In 1985 Extension Information split from its parent office and formed the Office of Extension Communications. Series Descriptions: This Sub-Group is divided into fifteen series. Arrangement within these series is chronological. Series One contains eighty-eight microfiche which contains documents related to the University of Missouri Board of Curators. Series Two contains one microfiche which contains a Calendar of Events. Series Three holds twenty-one microfiche which contain Commencement News Releases. Series Four contains thirty-eight microfiche with issues of the Exclaimer. Series Five consists of Extension Newsletters and News Releases on thirty-four microfiche. Series Six holds issues of The Facts on sixteen fiche. Honor Lists are contained on Series Seven's eight microfiche. Series Eight holds issues of Inner Circuits, on three microfiche. Series Nine contains copies of Missouri, on nine microfiche. News Releases from OPI are on two hundred seventy-seven microfiche in Series Ten. Series Eleven contains News Releases issued by Central Administration on sixteen microfiche. Series Twelve consists of issues of Spectrum on ninety-four microfiche. Series Thirteen contains UMR News Releases by OPI on one hundred seventy-four microfiche. Issues of the Vice President's News Letter are on four microfiche in Series Fourteen. Series Fifteen contains duplicates of The Facts, Exclaimer, and Spectrum on one hundred fourty-seven microfiche.Series Outline: 3. Commencement 4. Exclaimer 5.
