Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group contains records created and received by the University of Missouri Board of Curators' Executive Board and Executive Committee. Included are correspondence received by the Executive Board, monthly and annual reports presented to the Executive Committee, and meeting minutes of the Executive Committee.

Series Description:

Series 1. - UW:1/1/1 (A79-38)
This Series holds a sampling of official correspondence (1923-1929) received by the MU Board of Curators and its Executive Board from the University President, Stratton Brooks. Topics of this correspondence include appointment of and salary for a Dean of Women, faculty leaves of absence, staff resignations, appointment of student assistants, awarding of scholarships, departmental travel expenses, Journalism Week, Homecoming Day expenses, appointments declined by staff, awarding of teaching certificates, advertising for construction bids, sabbaticals, awarding of degrees and certificates, awarding printing contracts, faculty committee appointments, purchase of radio equipment, paving of streets, the Memorial Union account funds, sale of hog cholera serum, rental of houses for class instruction, glee club travel expenses, death of faculty members, the Missouri University Cooperative Store, and bids for construction of a football stadium.

Series 2. - UW:1/2/1 (75-33)
This Series contains reports sent to the Executive Committee of the University of Missouri Board of Curators (1904-1920). These are monthly and annual reports from the Directors of the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy at Rolla. They detail the administrative operation and overall planning and needs of the school.

Series 3. - UW:1/2/2 (A91-36)
This Series contains microfilm copies of records created or received by the Executive Committee of the University of Missouri Board of Curators (1941-1971). Included are meeting minutes and other records relating to the Executive Committee's discussions and decisions concerning the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy and later the University of Missouri at Rolla.

Series 4. - UW:1/2/3 (A00-87)
This Microfilmed Series contains the formal typed and bound copies of the minutes of the Executive Committee of the Board of Curators, which was charged with governance of the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy located at Rolla (1923-1971). The three member Executive Committee met on a monthly basis usually with the President of the University, the Secretary of the Board of Curators, and the Dean of the School in attendance. Matters covered in these series of motions and actions range from academic and non-academic employees to financial reports and audits.

Series 5. - UW:1/2/4 (A00-89)
This Microfilmed Series contains the Permanent Records of the Executive Board of the Board of Curators (1920-1965). Three specified members of the Board of Curators, the Secretary of the Board, and the President of the University usually attended monthly Executive Board meetings. This sub-committee of the Board of Curators dealt with routine matters as well as the pressing business of the University. The Series contains exclusively the typed formal minutes of the Executive Committee meetings. Matters and actions take in the meetings range from hiring faculty and staff, resignations, promotions, to setting fees and evaluating recommendations from the President or Chancellor.

Series 6. - UW:1/2/5 (A00-90)
This Microfilmed Series contains the Meeting Minutes and Papers of the Executive Board of the Board of Curators (1920-1947). Three specified members of the Board of Curators, the Secretary of the Board, and the President of the University usually attended monthly Executive Board meetings. This sub-committee of the Board of Curators dealt with routine matters as well as the time-sensitive business of the University. The Series contains copies of the typed formal meeting minutes, departmental and officer reports, requests for actions, Official Notice of Board Action forms, and supporting documentation for Board actions and business.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
