Scope and Content Note

This Record Sub-Group holds printed and duplicated materials produced by the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Engineering, as well as materials generated by the College's departmental precursors. Included in this Sub-Group are historical works, chronicling the study of engineering at MU, catalogs and bulletins, Executive Committee and Council meeting minutes, annual reports, photographic slides, faculty publications, newsletters, and alumni directories.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:9/00/1 (A80-28; A83-113)
This Series contains a published history of the UMC College of Engineering. This 1941 publication, Engineering at the University of Missouri, 1850-1940, is by Professor of Electrical Engineering Mendell P. Weinbach. Also included in this Series is a copy of Professor Weinbach's original, typed manuscript, "Ninety Years of Engineering at the University of Missouri, 1849-1939," as well as handwritten notes relating to this initial work.

Series 2. - C:9/11/2 (A76-23; A78-18)
This Series holds galley proofs of a manuscript entitled, "A Brief History of the College of Engineering, University of Missouri-Columbia, 1940-1966," by Professor of Aerospace Engineering Huber O. Croft and a typed copy of Professor Croft's addition to his work which details the study of Engineering at MU from 1966 through 1970. Also included are related correspondence, photographs of Professor Croft and other faculty of the College of Engineering, and certificates awarded Croft by professional organizations.

This Series holds six issues of The Engineers' Monthly (1931-1933). This bulletin was a monthly publication and the issues included in this Series are only a sampling.

Series 4. - C:9/00/3 (A78-19; A78-64)
This Series contains minutes of meetings of the UMC College of Engineering Executive Committee and Council (1969-1978). Included in this Series are discussions regarding committee meetings and retreats, budget requests, equipment requests, and a Performance Report of the College.

Series 5. - C:9/00/4 (A78-14; A78-58; A79-28; A80-40; A81-75; A90-99; Pamphlet Collection)
In this Series can be found annual reports of the UMC College of Engineering for the years 1944-1946, 1965-1968, 1970-1994, 1996-1997, and 2000. Also included in the Series are some annual reports for departments and programs within the College of Engineering for the years 1970-1982.

Series 6. - C:9/00/5 (A80-40; A82-94)
This Series holds photographic slides relating to the Graphic Communications Engineering Program, the UMC College of Engineering Legislative Budget Request for 1975-1976, and a "Role and Scope" parody which gives UMC Engineering's perspective on the proposed consolidation of UMC-UMR Engineering Schools. Also included in this Series are 16 slides from the 1976 NSF-ECCM Summer Awards banquet.

Series 7. - C:9/00/6
This Series contains booklets and reports authored by members of the faculty of the UMC College of Engineering during the period from 1880 through 1924. Included in the Series are "The Reports of Professors Lowry, Blair, Ficklin, and Schweitzer" from the "Report of 1879-1880," and the "Reports of the Senior Electrical Engineering Students On the 1898 Trip to St Louis." Also included are booklets entitled, The Heating Values and Proximate Analyses of Missouri Coal (1901) and The Water Power of Missouri, January 1901, an address delivered by J. A. L. Waddell to the "Engineering Students of the Missouri State University" on April 2, 1903, and an address by I. R. Kelso, entitled "Relations of the Public Service Commission to Public Utilities and the Public" (1924).

In this Series are contained issues of The Engineering Quarterly (1908, 1911), the College of Engineering Newsletter (1964, 1968-1976, 1982), and the latter publication's successor, News, (1982-1983, 1985-1986).

Series 9. - C:9/00/8 (A90-15)
This Series contains a Knight of St. Patrick membership certificate awarded to Joe Plovanich (1932). The certificate explains that Plovanich has ". . . been a l'yal and active mimber of the Guard of St. Patrick and a faithful b'y in Ingineering."
