Scope and Content Note

This Sub-Group contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources' Department of Animal Sciences (formerly the Department of Animal Husbandry). Included in the Sub-Group are correspondence files, memoranda, committee meeting minutes, committee reports, budget materials, annual reports, equipment inventories, livestock inventories, role and scope project evaluations, scrapbooks, research record books, livestock feeders' day reports, filmstrips, photographs, photographic slides, feedlot diagrams, posters, blueprints, newspaper clippings, news releases, speeches, grant applications, progress reports, research publications, bulletins, pamphlets, and faculty files.

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:3/20/2 (A77-22; A77-34; A78-46)
This Series contains records of the UMC College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources' Department of Animal Sciences, (1870-1977). Included in this Series are correspondence files, memoranda, committee meeting minutes, committee reports, budget materials, annual reports, equipment inventories, livestock inventories, project work sheets, scrapbooks, livestock feeders' day reports, filmstrips, and photographs. Much of the correspondence included in this Series was written by Department of Animal Sciences' Chair, William F. Pfander (1959-1977). Additionally, many of the records in this Series which date from the turn of the century pertain to establishment of the Department (then known as "Animal Husbandry"), development of a curriculum, and biographical details concerning contemporary departmental faculty.

Series 2. - C:3/20/4 (A85-101)
This Series contains records of the UMC College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources' Department of Animal Sciences, (1870-1977). Included in this Series are livestock experimental research record books, research reports, research publications, feed lot diagrams, newspaper clippings, and photographs of livestock judging teams, research animals, and project facilities. Also included in this Series is a copy of Development of the Hereford Cattle Industry in the United States, written by J. M. Jones for the 1912 University of Missouri Animal Husbandry Seminar.

Series 3. - C:3/20/1 (A76-49; A84-62)
This Series contains records of the UMC College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources' Department of Animal Sciences (1907-1949). Included in this Series are research record books, project reports, and photographs which detail Experiment Station work done in the field of breeding, raising, and feeding horses, mules, and cattle. Photographs include images of animals used in experimental projects, teams judging sheep, teams judging cuts of meat, Block and Bridle Club field trips, and the J. C. Penney Horse Farm. Also included in the Series is a poster advertising "Horses - Jacks" for stud services available at the W. C. Spurgeon Farm near Columbia, Missouri.

This Series contains records of the UMC College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources' Department of Animal Sciences, (1961-1983). Included in this Series are blueprints, reports, grant applications, correspondence, committee meeting notes, speeches, and informational pamphlets pertaining to planning, designing, funding, construction, and dedication of the University of Missouri-Columbia Animal Sciences Center.

This Series contains records of the UMC College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources' Department of Animal Sciences, (1965-1974). Included in this Series are correspondence files, progress reports, feed consumption records, weight gain records, temperature and humidity charts, and published results pertaining to cattle feedlot facilities and management research. This research took place at the University of Missouri-Columbia's Weldon Spring Research Center.

Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center, (1994-1995).

This Series contains terminated faculty personnel files from the College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources' Department of Animal Science, (1951-2012). The records [RESTRICTED] pertain to the faculty members' careers at the University of Missouri and consist, among other things, of curricula vitae, resumes, offprints, evaluations, correspondence, memoranda, promotion and tenure material, absence and leave records, personnel action forms, grants applications, and printed and duplicated material. In a few cases the files contain photographic material. This Series also contains some records for instructors and for adjunct faculty.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
