Scope and Content Note

This Record Sub-Group contains records created by various UMC Committees that are composed of faculty and staff members (and may include some student members as well).

Series Descriptions:

Series 1. - C:24/1/1 (A96-110; A06-75)
This Series contains working files of the UMC Campus Planning Committee for Facilities and Grounds, relating directly to considerations of environmental design, (1991-1994, 1998-2006). Included in this Series are meeting minutes, agendas, correspondence, reports, and policy documents. Topics in this Series include campus bicycle pathways, construction of Lee Hills Hall, classroom design, South Quad development, the Campus Master Plan, and the UMC-E.P.A. "Greenlights Program."

Series 2. - C:24/1/2 (A02-122)
This Series contains reports of UMC Planning Committees, (ca. 1990 and 2001). The first report is entitled, MU in the 1990's: Goals and Objectives for Planning, Budgeting and Evaluation related to the MU Long Range Planning Committee and MU Planning Council, (ca. 1990). The structure for planning is an "academically driven planning process, directed and monitored by the MU Planning Council chaired by the Provost." The second item is a series of reports entitled, Report on the Strategic Planning Process... related to the Strategic Planning Advisory Council. The report "presents a revised list of goals and objectives, establishes priorities for action, and specifies the key outcome measures by which [UMC's] degree of success will be evaluated." The report is a product of a "strategic planning effort at MU...launched formally in 1996 under the guidance of the Strategic Planning Advisory Council (SPAC), a representative group of faculty, students, staff, and alumni." This collection includes the first, second, fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth reports in the series, (1997, 1998, 2000-2001, 2003-2004).

Series 3. - C:24/1/3 (A03-97)
This Series contains records of the Environmental Affairs Committee (EAC), (1995-2000). The records consist of correspondence, memoranda, meeting minutes, agendas, newsletters, and supplementary material such as pamphlets and brochures. Some of the records included in the Series are from the Environmental Practices Committee, a Sub-Committee of the EAC. Topics addressed in the records include paper use on campus, bicycle paths, parking, general recycling issues, and the Environmental Leadership Award.

This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Lectures Committee, (1996-2001). Records in this Series consist of applications, including curricula vitae of proposed lecturers or speakers, proposals, correspondence, and memoranda. The records include both funded and not-funded proposals and applications.

Series 5. - C:24/1/5 (A06-22)
This Series contains records of the University of Missouri-Columbia Library Committee, (1934-1972). The records in this Series consist of meeting minutes, supplementary meeting materials, and some meeting agendas.

Series 6. - C:24/1/6
This Series contains printed and duplicated and other material created, produced, or received by the University of Missouri Black History Month Planning Committee, (1990-1999, 2016). The material consists of posters, announcements, program brochures, and photocopies of newsclippings related to the "Tuskegee Airmen" program held in 1991. The Series also contains proclamations of Black History Month from the State of Missouri and from the City of Columbia, (1994-1999, 2016), as well as proclamations for a "Celebration of African American Art Day", (16 February, 1994; for an MU Libraries exhibit), and a "Celebration of Black Contributions to the Arts Day", (28 February, 1995; for an MU Libraries exhibit), by the mayor of Columbia.

Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files. Consultations with legal counsel, both in-house and external, are protected by the attorney/client privilege and will not be released.
