Scope and Content Note

(A91-62)
This Record Sub-Group contains records of "LSV", an organization for senior women at the University of Missouri. LSV was formed in 1908; Luther and Cora Defoe seem to have been the group's original sponsors and advisors. Members knew it as simply “The Group. One of the organization's traditions was that its full name was not to be spoken out loud.

Among materials included in this Sub-Group are photos of LSV members (ca. 1908-1991), photos of the Defoes, a "message" journal (containing brief epistles from one generation of members to the next), an organizational constitution, a LSV pin, alumnae correspondence, correspondence to Cora Defoe upon the death of her husband (Cora Defoe was made an honorary member in 1939), and a leather portfolio for holding correspondence.
Note to Researcher: To this day, it is believed, no one but members of the organization know what the initials "LSV" stand for.

Note to Archivist: In order to maintain original order, photocopies of the collection have been made; they constitute collection C:22/18/2a and are available in Box 2.

Series Descriptions:

This Sub-Group is not divided into separate record series. Arrangement of the Sub-Group follows the original, topical order.
