Scope and Content Note

This Record Sub-Group contains printed catalogues of exhibitions and collections held at the University of Missouri-Columbia's Museum of Art and Archaeology. These publications are illustrated with black and white as well as color photographs. These Photographs depict works from the museum's holdings, in addition to short-term displays of items on loan. Included in the Sub-Group are exhibition catalogues of three featured artists: Dean Cornwell, Fred Shane, and Lawrence McKinin. Also included in this Sub-Group is a catalog presenting a photographic tour of the museum's Inaugural Exhibition of 1976. Additionally included are an illustrated handbook displaying the museum holdings in 1982 and a separate publication dedicated to the Gandharan sculpture, a special collection spanning six centuries of South Asian art.

Item 1 - "The Inaugural Exhibition: A Photographic Tour", November 12-14, 1976. This publication marks the dedication of the Museum of Art and Archaeology in Pickard Hall, where it was moved from Ellis Library. The new building was named in honor of Professor John Pickard, MU's first Instructor of Art History and founder of the first art museum at the University (reprinted from Muse 10, 1976, 20pp).
