Included in this Sub-Group are office correspondence files, committee, council, and board files, graduating student records, curriculum files, program evaluations, grant and research funding records, policy change proposals, promotion and tenure records, budget and financial records, annual reports, fellowship program records, and photographs of UMC Graduate School Dean's and administrators.

Series 4. - C:10/1/5, C:10/1/6 and (A74-12; A82-93; )
This Series holds faculty and general correspondence files created or received by the Dean's Office of the Graduate School and Office of Research (1931-1981). This Series contains general correspondence between Dean Henry Bent and MU faculty and staff members from 1931 through 1954. The Series also contains general administrative correspondence of the Dean's Office regarding both general and specific concerns of faculty, staff, and students, as well as faculty recruitment and departure, relations with the University's Central Administration, graduate program content, policy revisions, appointment of graduate advisors, use of graduate students as teaching assistants, relations with other UM campuses, University activities in wartime, financial and budgetary matters, course grading, professional conferences and meetings, faculty publications, and student, faculty, and staff disputes. Also included in the Series are departmental evaluations, long-range planning inventories, graduate student questionnaires, research evaluations, research and foreign travel proposals, degree proposals, and award nominations.

Included in the Series are summaries of Graduate School and Office of Research annual reports for the years 1940, 1941, and 1944-1946, as well as complete annual reports for the years 1963-1964, 1966-1974, and annual report supporting documentation for the years 1971-1972.

The Series includes administrative correspondence, meeting minutes, committee reports, self-studies, program reviews, and new degree proposals. The topics covered by the records in this Series include affirmative action, graduate student stipends, questionnaires and surveys completed by The Graduate School, curriculum, inventories of academic degree programs, committees, councils and boards, policy change proposals, evaluations of research programs, scholarships, fellowships, grants for foreign travel, the Chancellor's Award, Weldon Springs Awards, Role and Scope, graduate and doctoral faculty, promotion and tenure, development, budget, grant and research development, self-studies and program reviews. Also part of the Series are files from Dean Blount, including Board of Director meeting minutes, various reports, and executive summaries, regarding Missouri Ingenuity, Inc., (1984-1987), of which Blount was a Board member.

This Series contains administrative records from the Graduate School, (1985-1997), concerning the Access Enhancement Program of the University of Missouri, a program intended to support student minority enhancement, especially for underrepresention in specific disciplines, and the Patricia Roberts Harris (PRH) Fellowship, a United States Department of Education program that was closed out in the late 1990s. Records found in this Series include funding and grant proposals, faculty vitae, program handbooks, performance reports, correspondence, agreement memoranda, and award notifications. Also included in the Series are records of the Southeastern PRH directors' meeting, (1993).

The majority of the records stem from the period during which Charles Sampson was Interim Dean of the Graduate School.

Restrictions Note: The Archives of the University of Missouri-Columbia is required by law and Board of Curator's policy to restrict access to some files and information. Student records are held as confidential under the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 and by University policy. Faculty promotion and tenure records and Academic Personnel files are restricted for 75 years, or the lifetime of the individual. All grievance, disciplinary, and medical records are treated as confidential files.
