Scope and Content Note

(A86-44)
This Record Sub-Group consists of photographs, slides and negatives that were taken on the University of Missouri-Columbia campus by various photographers. The collection was maintained by Academic Support Center (ASC) to serve requests for images of University of Missouri-Columbia buildings, monuments and campus scenes.

Most of the photographs and negatives in this Sub-Group depict University buildings and were taken between 1955 and 1970. There are numerous aerial shots in the Sub-Group. All photographs and negatives are black and white unless otherwise noted, and most of the prints are 8x10 in size. This Record Sub-Group contains an extensive collection of prints and negatives of the columns on Francis Quadrangle. These files have been divided further within this category into northern and southern exposures. In addition to the numerous depictions of the exteriors of campus buildings, some interiors are included that capture campus life and the state of the buildings at that time. A large portion of these photographs document the technology of the Research Reactor. Various portraits and scenes containing MU administrators are found in this Record Sub-Group. Among the images of university administrators are President Elmer Ellis who served from 1954-1963, Chancellor John Schwada who served from 1964-1970, President John Weaver 1966-1970, and John Wolpers who served on the Board of Curators from 1935-1951.
